Help! This has been occuring recently. I would be doing anything with my computer and then a single beep sounds off from the motherboard and my mouse and keyboard freezes momentarily for a few seconds. I have an MS optical mouse so when the mouse locks up, the laser is also off. This has been occuring of late and it is annoying the crap out of me, especially when playing games. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

sounds like.. either a faulty port or device. try swapping in a different mouse/keyboard or try your current mouse/keyboard on a different machine.

i sympathize with playing games and then input devices go down... i've been in tournament games when they have messed up.. i remember the heated rage all too well. luckily i had spares on hand.. and a hammer. ;)

by the way, if you know anyone with equipment to test voltage.. that'd be a definate way to determine if your port is offering the mouse and/or keyboard with sufficient power. requires very minimal juice.. not exactly sure off hand but i could look it up if you want.

The keyboard works when this happens. I've tried other optical mouses and the same problem occurs. I even switched it to a usb port and same problem. I tested another stuff on the same usb port and they have no problems at all. Thanks, any help is appreciated.

yeah, i have the same damn problem, and it's a piss off when it occurs when i play wc3 online.

anyways, the problem worsens when i plug it into the usb port, so i keep it on the ps/2 port using a converter.

try update the BIOS for your motherboard; perhaps the BIOS on your motherboard is buggy and thus can't communicate with the mouse and keyboard.

Ok, here's an update. The optical mouse regardless if plugged into usb or ps/2 with the converter freezes. However, when I use a regular ball mouse there is no problem. Is there something wrong with my power or windows?
