You can't use an external mouse with Windows 1.01 unless you have a DOS driver for it from the mouse manufacturer.

i have a small ms-dos version genius mouse driver. i load it in autoexec.bat before the windows starts.

@echo off

this driver "see" the mouse on com2 serial port, the mouse get volt (the led is flashing), but during the windows the mouse is useless.

(i'm hungarian, so please sorry for the language bugs)

i will try that driver (cutemouse), thanks!

Hi Howarohans,

I think you may have problems trying to run windows without a hard disk, it is best used with a hard disk.

Phil's advice above is good.

Early versions of Windows run under dos. Therefore you should first make sure the mouse runs ok under dos, before testing it with windows.

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - keep us posted.

That deal is almost 25 years old.

Windows 1.1 was on three 5 1/4 floppies as I recall. I may still have it. You do need to have a pointer for windows. Not sure the dos integrated with 1.x.

That old of a system was OK with dos and maybe some things like simple menus. It stunk with windows. There were almost no programs for it.

Google is evil

if the mouse does *NOT* work under dos, when connected using COM2, try connecting it to COM1.

Note; you should disconnect/connect these ports with the power *OFF*.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

On this laptop there are 1 serial, 1 pararell, 1 DIN (for keyboard), 1 midi and 1 vga port. So i've got 1 port, where the mouse can connect.
i will try this:
I load the mouse driver for dos, and i play a game wich need mouse.
(if the mouse will not work, i don not knoww what i will do...)

The hardisk can't be connected, becouse the laptop doesn't "see" the harddisk (i do not know why). I was angry, when i tried to connect the hardisk about 30 times and after that i throw out the hdd and the connecting electronic wich is between the hdd and the laptop, so that's why i can not install hdd...

Thanks everybody!

(i do not have internet at home, i use the internet at work. and the laptop is at my home, so i post > you anwer > i go home, try > next day post ...)
