I am trying to resolve an issue with a Motorola SB 5100 cable modem. The specific issue is my cable company tells me the modem is dead but Motorola seems to think it should work. My cable company has checked it with their equipment which shows it inoperable.
Motorola on the other hand says it should work according to their troubleshooting guide.
Here are some specifics on lights that work on the modem. POWER light solid green, RECEIVE light solid green, SEND light solid green, ONLINE light flashing green and the PC/ACTIVITY light no light period.
The cable company said there is no signal going from modem to computer this is why the PC/ACTIVITY light is not working and not getting internet connection.
Motorola said it should work as the cable company should have re-provisioned the modem.
The cable company states they checked the the modem, ethernet card and ethernet cable with their equipment and found the ethernet card and modem bad. They replaced the cable as well just for safeguard reasons.
I am just trying to figure out how to determine if the modem is operable or inoperable as I am getting conflicting responses from the two of them.
Any thoughts or help would be apreciated.

It sounds like a good time to substitute a known good modem. That would prove it, huh? Is there any chance for that?

Hi PC Bob,
Yes I have already replaced it with a new Arris from my ISP provider. All seems to be working well. I take it you are not a big fan of Motorola?? Thanks for your input.

Well, I didn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong with Motorola. But any piece of hardware can go bad. I just meant maybe you might try another known good one. It's just normal troubleshooting technique, also known as cherry picking. Glad you got it going, tho.
