Comment:

I just bought new computer parts with the intention of assembling a computer. However, I ran into a problem which I have overlooked when choosing the parts - My Intel Desktop Board D945PWM motherboard is ATX compatible, while my Intel PentiumD 930 processor is BTX compatible. Is this an issue with the proccessor itself, or just the heatsink? If it is just the heatsink, would simply replacing the heatsink with one that is ATX compatible solve my problem? Or is replacing the motherboard the only solution? Please help

AFAIK, there is no BTX CPU, what you have is a CPU w/ BTX cooling (Thermal module HSF) package that you don't need. So the issue isn't with the processor itself.

thank you for your awnser.
Conserning the thermal module, the thermal module could be then replaced by any other heatsink, or should I look for one specifically for Pentium D processor? And Do I actually need it anyways to run the computer? I already have two fans in the computer.

Like I said before you do not need the thermal module.

Since you already have a HSF laying around, why not return the BTX compatible CPU retail package for a refund and get an OEM processor.

again, your help was very valuable, Sabertooth. however, it turns out that returning our processor is not possible. Since this is the case, do you know if a thermal module desigend specifically for Pentium D is needed, or if any thermal module will do?
