Someone told me my motherboard went out and I need another motherboard for around 50 dollars know of any places to find a good motherboard?

You dont appear to know alot about your PC. So if you were forced to change your Motherboard you might not know where to start. I am saying this mainly because you filled in CPU/RAM with questionmarks.First of all lets start out with the numbingley domb ones.
1. Are you on the PC that you have been told the Motherboard is not functioning? If you are and are experiencing no problems don't worry about it your fine.
2. If you are not on the same PC that you have the problem with then follow these instructions.
I wish you were a little more clear about what happens when you press the power button. 1. Check all external Cables then check to see if it works. Next check to see if when you press the power button you feel air coming out of the back of your case. If you don't it is probaly a problem with you power supply unit if you do feel air precede to the next step. Check all of the internal power cables and any drive connectors to make sure there all in or in all the way. If you are having no luck after checking everything then it may be a shot Motherboard or CPU but I doubt that as it is raley the case.If it turns out to be the Mobo you are going to have to pay some one to install it for you because it is the most complex piece to install, because just about everything in your case will have to be taken out then reinstalled agin. So realy buying it from a online retailer wouldn't be good because you will have a board and no one to install it.If you had a frien who is going to install it ask them for a good retailer. Also please post what happens when you press the powerbutton on your PC.

whenever i press the power button nothing appears on ther screen and i hear no beeps, i tried what you said and eveything seems to be working

ok who told you it was your Mobo? They might be right but first did you open up your case and check all of the power cables inside of the case. Also any information you can give me about your Processor would be good in helping me help you out.
I have never had any problems with my Processor or Mothereboard being fried. So I don't realy know what would happen in your motherboard or CPU were fried. That reminds me make sure to oplen the case and see whether the fan on the heatsink is working. Also are your drives getting power? any lights on the front of the case lighting up? Make sure you check the internal power cables that might be the cause. You say that the fan on the PSU is working so its probally not your Power Supply.

ok yes lights on the front light up and it sounds like my hard drive loads or something then in a couple mins the cd rom drive starts to boot i checked all the cable they're all in good i think the processor is a 486, but i have a P1 that fits in the whole could that work?

HA! I don't think that you could PAY someone $50 to TAKE a 486 mobo!
Just kidding, tyler, your machine is rather old.
