Name: Eric
Motherboard: ECS K7VZM Mainboard
OS: Windows XP (But I don't think that's the problem)Okay. I built this computer myself, but I'm not a complete expert on computers.
I have been running it fine for about 5 months or so.. All of a sudden though, I wake up one morning to find it will not boot at all. I have plugged everything out and back in , and reset my CMOS. The computer will make a little humming noise when I turn it on, I suspsect that is the power supply, but the CPU fan doesn't turn on, nor does anything else. Well, the RAM lights come on. I have no idea what the problem is.
This could very well be associated with the problem: Windows XP. That's the only major change to my computer recently. About a week ago I switched to that OS from 98SE. My mother was using the computer this morning, and she said it booted and it gave her an error message like "There is a problem with this OS. Please restart your computer." --That is where the trouble began. Although if it was a software problem, I would think it would at least partially boot up. Therefore I suspect it is a hardware problem.
Please help. Thanks.

Its hard to say right of the back. I will tell you that i will never buy an ECS board again I have had really bad luck with these even though some people love them.First make sure to check everything to be properly mounted and configured including ram and connections you dont want to tare up your system if you dont have to ..Bealive me... If it checks out Ok then im afraid you are going to have to do some real troubleshooting if youre up to it??, unplug any and all extra stuff hooked up to your computer leaving only the bare essentials to boot up, monitor mouse drives, video card etc. try this to see if it will boot if it boots fine you know the problem is with one of the cards drives you just took off. if it doesnt the you are going to start replacing parts for good working parts. It is an elimination process where if you substitute a good working part for a part that you dont really know is good or bad. Replace the hardrive for a well working harddrive with another os.if it boots then you know the problem is in your hardrive or os.also replace power supply unless you know how to test the output voltage with a DVM?? Sounds funny but also replace video card.personaly i dont like Xp it is really picky about the devices you have hooked up ,if they dont pass the "Xp compatability test" What a joke...Good luck and post results

you said no power to the cpu fan i had that happien to me once the BIOS was TOAST, i had to replace it.

I think it had a variant of the CIH virus for Win XP. Hopefully the BIOS chip can be replaced.. If not I may have to get a new motherboard.

how many times does the pc speaker beep when you press the power button? This sounds like a fried CPU.
