There is about a zero chance you can do that unless HP support shows a direct FRU choice. That is unlikely.
Just sell it and get a newer one.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

if you keep msconfig clean, you could run XP on that laptop. what is it that, the laptop can not do, that you need it to?

processor speed too slow and only 256mb max ram. bare minimum for xp.
