Comment: Is a "socket mPGA478" board the same as a "socket 478" board? I need to replace mine and my local store has one in but it is labelled as "mPGA478". Just want to make sure. Thanks

Reply: (edit)yes. pga means Pin Grid Array. But you still need to make sure it is compatible with your CPU. (like different FSB speeds etc)

Reply: (edit)It is the same thing. Explain why you feel you have to replace it. Unless it's an identical board, you will have to reinstall XP (repair install)

Reply: (edit)I was tinkering the other day and tried to get my heat sink and fan off, it was stuck solid so i gave it a bit of force, a bit too much. I ended up putting a crack down the middle. Oh well :) That was going to be my next question, it is an emachines pc, i know i will have to reinstall xp. Can i use my recovery disks? or will i have to get hold of an off the shelf copy of xp and reuse the product key on the side of the case?
