Motherboard replacement and connections

Emachines T6524 desktop
September 11, 2009 at 14:02:10
Specs: Windows XP
I am replacing the motherboard in the eMachine and wasn't careful when I removed some of the connections. Is there any place I can find exactly how the connections go to the JUSB1 and JUSB2 and the J1394, there are 3 cables 1 red, 1 blue and 1 black. Also need to know exactly how to install the Power LED, HDD LED and Power LED. Each cable is labeled and I know where they go just not in what order.

I think this is your motherboard...

But stop everything for a minute!

Why did you replace the motherboard? Power supply failure or just don't know?

I ask because eMachines psu's are notorious for failing and killing the motherboard when they fail. You don't need to kill another board because of a bad power supply.

The computer would fail to start so I took it to a local computer store and they said it was either the motherboard or the hard drive--I am taking my chances and replacint the motherboard.

I have spent 2 days searching for the connections for the eMachine and I have printed the manual for the motherboard but it does not tell me how to install the cables - it just tells me what they are

"said it was either the motherboard or the hard drive"

You need to find a new computer store to deal with. All you needed to do was disconnect the hard drive to determine if that was in fact the problem. You don't need a hard drive connected in order to POST.

What exactly did happen when attempting to start?

I agree with SkipCox about putting on the brakes. If they had to guess and had any experience with eMachines they would have sold you a power supply.

After many hours of trial and error I believe I have connected the the cables correctly as the power button works (lights up)as well as the USB ports on the front are working, HOWEVER, I do not have any sound. I have connected different speakers to make sure that they work and they do (on other computers). When I go to the System properties it says there are no speakers. In response to the last post about what was wrong with the computer to being with it randomly shut down or refused to boot at all. I have had no issues with that since installing the new motherboard.
