Looking for a socket A motherboard for a replacement in this computer. They seem scarce, and most are PC Chips or ECS, which I don't want. Found this one and am considering it. Opinions? Or suggestions for others. Note that my Athlon is NOT XP, plain old Athlon with 266fsb. Sis video not a problem for me, my present video card should work in this board. TIA

I'm running that CPU on this computer using a Gigabyte GA-7ZXE.

I've had it more than 3 years.

I don't know if they are currently available.

The above FIC nForce2 board is good for the money. nForce2 chipset is much faster and usually more stable than any VIA based one and benifits from dual channel memory if you have more than one module.

I wouldn't recommend the Chaintech...either of the FIC boards are better, either the KT600 or nForce2.

I don't know much about the Mercury boards other than they're made by Kobian?

Hellz Yea!

Thanks Badboy, Ben and Jam for your responses. None of the other boards listed support the "old" Athlon, according to the specs listed, just the Athlon XP, which is another animal.

The Chaintech says it does support Athlon.

Maybe I should just give up and spring for a faster processor and better board.

Jam, I actually looked at this combo on Outpost earlier, but hesitated because the mobo is an ECS. Isn't that by the same manufacturer as the poorly recommended PC Chips brand?

Also, what in the heck is a "tray CPU"? Never heard the term until recently. I've tried googling it, but all I get is links to buy a CPU tray, whatever that is.

Thanks for your help, it is appreciated greatly.

The last 2 computers that I built were ECS MOBO/CPU bundles from Outpost.

So far, ECS MOBO have met my expectations.
