motherboard power connection

I have an hp computer with an PTGD-LA (Goldfish3) motherboard and on the motherboard there is are two power connections.... one is a 24 pin ATX power connector and the other is a ATX +12v power connector problem is that my power supply has a 20 pin power plug that goes in to the 24 pin on the motherboard and a 4 pin plug for the other connection near the cpu so I have 4 pins empty on my 24 pin connection on the motherboard....should I buy a new power suply and fill the 24 pin plug and the 4 pin plug ??

Yes, you can use a 20pin PSU on a 24pin board - the extra
pins are for powering PCIe cards so you may have a problem
there, but you won't do any damage, it just may not work

Make sure you put the 20 pin on the correct 20 pins on the
board of course - check your motherboard manual for that.

Another, probably better, option is to get a 20pin to 24pin
adapter - should get one at any PC supplies shop for only a
few £/$
