hi there,

I have very interesting problem that noone could help me solve (including a PC service).

My PC doesn't boot. I thought it's probably something with the BIOS chip...because I have tried everything to find the cause...the funny thing is that when I decided it's something with the motherboard (they told me the same at the service) I bought a new one. Asus A7N8X-X. When I first tried to start it didn't want to run. After that it suddenly started and for a couple of days everything was fine. Than suddenly the system started to freeze and the MB began to boot with changed FSB and DDR BUS...they were 133MHz in the BIOS, but yet, the system was starting at 100Mhz...then I reset the BIOS and it does not boot till then.

The MB starts, the HDD spins, but the video card -not...and the speaker plays one short and one long beep...
I tried with another CPU, RAM, Power Supply, cables, without HDD, without any other components, with another video card, i checked for viruses several times, and still, the problem exists...

please, if anyone have any (strange, unlikely) ideas-share them with me...

10x!

Hmm, sounds like a mobo problem, which you probably already have determined. Well, here's an idea that can maybe help, or at least narrow it down. If you can get a bootable floppy to run, go to www.memtest86.com, and download a bootable floppy of memtest. This is a good test of ram, and if its messed, it will start giving you errors pretty soon. If you don't get errors, your ram is good, and connection to motherboard is good, if you do get errors, ram could be bad, or mobo slots for ram could be bad. Can't think of anything else, I'll keep trying though, let me know the results of the test, good luck.

Thanks for the fast reply...but the problem is that a friend of mine is using my RAM without any problems all day long...so it's not the RAM

and the other thing is that I have TWO mainboards, with exactly the same problem...I could not belive that 2 MBs can fail in 1 week in the same way, and there is nothing special causing this...that's my problem, I can't find what causes this and it really drives me crazy :)

anyway...:)) I cannot boot at all, I cannot get to the BIOS and there is no video signal, so I cannot use any diskettes...

Have you tried MoBo in different CASE?? The case might be making a dead short??

It does seem you have replaced everything else!

I agree with x86. Try a different case. You might have a short or some voltage leaking from some wires.

If you do try the mobo in another case, I suggest you do not use your psu, as this may be the cause of your problems.

Instead, use/borrow a known good psu with the same or better higher rating, than yours, and try it in your case.

Good luck - keep us posted.

hi all!
10x for your replies!

I have tried the MoBo outside the case and with another power supply...but AFTER the MoBo crashed...so this still don't exclude my PS/case as a possible reason, because it may have caused permanent damage, after which it won't be any difference if I try another PS/case...

anyway, is it possible my subwoofer to cause everything? it is Cambridge works (made for Creative Live! SB series). I know it is NOT magnetically shielded, but it more than a meter away form the PC, and behind one of the wooden bars of my desk...
