I have settled on a the Asus m2n-e sli motherboard to buy but have one last question. As of right now I am a little short on cash and will have to settle on ONE video card. I have noticed on some sli boards they have a dummy board that transfers all info to the other slot but I can find nothing that this board will have to have a similar dummy board. Will it run with only one video board if there is no dummy board in the package?

I think most people will tell you that SLi & Crossfire setups are a waste of money. Better to spend your money on ONE good video card. But if you insist on going the SLi route, make sure to invest in a decent power supply & plan on spending $100 or more.

Also, get a better motherboard. The nForce 500 SLi is a budget chipset. If you must have SLi, you should be getting a board based on the nForce 570 SLi chipset or better yet, the nForce 590 SLi. But I highly suggest you stick with a single video card system with a board based on the nForce 570 Ultra.

This table should help explain the differences:

"I think most people will tell you that SLi & Crossfire setups are a waste of money."
are you on crack!?!?!
although lost of motherboards only use half (8X) of the 16X PCIe max bus speed so sli would cost more and preform close to one card... but if you are smart and buy a motherboard that supports 16X on both cards rather than 8X each you will REALLY see the benifit of a good SLI system (and really see the benifit of 2 BFG 8800GTX cards running SLI)
and im sorta a nvidia fanboy so i gotta say dont bother with crossfire, it sucks

"are you on crack!?!?!"

No, are you?? Explain to me what is so great about SLI that will justify the cost of two video cards, an SLI-certified PSU, not to mention an SLi board capable of running 2 x 16? Do you think the human eye can detect the difference between say, 100FPS & 150FPS? And do you also realize that to take full advantage of the 8800GTX you should have the fastest CPU you can afford? That means a Core 2 Duo, not an A64 X2.

Here's how Tom's Hardware put it:

"If you don't do the job properly, the net effect will be like hooking up a pair of garbage speakers to a Bose or Klipsch sound system. The effect would be the same... less than optimal performance, and an experience that is far from ideal given the money you spent."

SLi system:

Asus nForce 590 SLi board - $180
2 x BFG 8800GTX - $1160
OCZ 700W PSU - $125

Total = $1465

Single card system:

Asus nForce 570 Ultra - $95
BFG 8800GTX - $580
FSP 500W PSU - $90

Total = $765

And ya know what's really interesting? When ya throw all this high priced hardware together then compare an 8800GTX (single) vs 2 x 8800GTX (SLi), the difference is between 5-30FPS, depending on the game. You tell me...is it worth the extra $700??

Ok Ok
Now would someone answer my original question? Will it run ok with only one card without the dummy card in the other slot?
