I am trying to find info on my mobo.I am using it as a "CRASH-TEST-DUMMY" to learn on (overclocking & such)I know its old but I don't want to practice on a brand new machine, wifey would not be happy .I went to the award software site & did a bios scan , this is the info I got

Computer name: OFFICE
Your Ticket #: 46YYLGY
BIOS Type: Award BIOS
Date: November 9th 2001
BIOS ID: 11/09/2001-601-686B-6A6LIM49C-00
BIOS OEM: W6368MS V5.1 110901 10:00:17-6.00 PG
Chipset: VIA 82C601 rev 5
SuperIO: VIA 686 rev 64 at pci 7
Manufacturer: VIA Technologies, Inc.
Motherboard: VT8601
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.0
Maximum Memory: 512MB
Installed Memory: 576MB
Memory Config: Slot1:512 Slot2:64 Slot3:0 Slot4:0

I have some misgivings about this info because of a couple of things .First,it says I have 4 slots for memory config but there is only 2 spots for ram (remember I'm new to this stuff).Am I not seeing or understanding something ? Second ,I thought I saw somewhere before that I could use up to 1gb of ram, also the chip in the middle of the board (I assume this is what is refered to as the "chipset")says VIA VT8601T (bios check missed the T). where are the jumpers (if any) or is overclocking done through bios ? I see a handfull of bare pins where jumpers could go but the only one i see with an actual jumper on it says FRONT AUDIO below it & the jumper can cover 4 pins at once .
thanks for any help, Jack

Download and use SIW, or Everest home, or Belarc advisor. I am currently using SIW.

You are mistaken. The way the board might see things is not what you actually see. If for example it says you have 4 slots, that means that the design or parts are there that could support 4 slots. Even if those slots are not actually there.

Go to help and support and see what system information says.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Download the manual from the MSI site. The pins you refer to are probably headers for things like sound, USB, case connections, fans, etc.

besides OCing, you may consider some dual boot set-ups with XP and other OS's. How big is the HD?

If your MBoard was designed for an OEM computer vendor like HP, Dell, etc. there won't be any options in the BIOS to allow for overclocking.
