Subject: motherboard 'cushion'OS: xp proCPU/Ram: 2.0/512 |
Comment: Hi, I am in the process of installing a new motherboard. I have seen where some friends have placed a thin layer of "padding" between the motherboard and he case. Is this an accepted practice, and, if so, what material would be best for this??? Thanks in advance for any input.

Reply: (edit)Bad bad bad. Use ONLY the standoffs. Any material can collect moisture from the air. This in turn can become conductive. If you understand anything about electricity you know this is bad bad bad. PS some of the gray foams that come with computer equipment ARE conductive. Your friends aren't the examples to follow. Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Reply: (edit)also it would act as thermal insulation which is bad, having the small air gap between the back of mobo and casing is better for cooling
