Make sure the ram you have is compatible with the mboard you have, or you may have major problems.
See Response 5 in this:

If you have generic ram, whether it will work properly in a new mboard is a crap shoot.
Make sure you have the ram in the right slots - some types of modules must be certain slots on many mboards that use DDR ram.
Make sure your ram and video card are all the way down in their slots, and the ram is installed in the the right direction.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Jam is right (of course). There are lots of beep codes for various motherboard circuit failures, but 99.99% of the time it's a video adapter or memory problem.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Beep codes are not necessarily standardized, and can be customized by whoever modified the bios to suit the mboard, but if it's of any help, on a couple of mboards I have that have an Award bios, I get a beep pattern like you describe if I have no ram at all in the mboard, and a long beep followed by two short beeps (once) if the video card is not installed. Therefore, if you have an Award bios and have the same codes, I suspect you have the wrong ram, or it's in the wrong slots, or it's not seated properly.
