Comment:

I have an older Gateway Essential 700c and I would like to upgrade the processor to over 2 gigs and so would I need to replace the motherboard only or are there other things I need to change?

You need a new PC, why?

PSU/Case = inadequate and usually made for Gateway.

Motherboard/CPU = not upgradable because of type of case.

Solution is to sell current PC Base Unit and put money towards another non-branded, non-propriatery generic Base Unit.

hiho is correct. Gateway and Dell are proprietary systems and do not lend themeselves to major upgrades. You can sell your system on eBay like many other people with older systems do. As far as a new machine goes, I would check out eCollegePC.com at

http://www.ecollegepc.com/

They configure very nice machines and their cost (shipping is free) is only a bit more than if you built it yourself from scratch.

Good luck.

i agree with them. you probably wont be able to upgrade it too much. sell it and put the money to a custom non-proprietary system. regards, dragon

I would suggest building a new one to your own specs. any of the ones you buy prebuilt can be okay .. but I save much $ and get what I want by putting boxes together myself.

lots of places online to get good prices on hardware .. such as www.newegg.com and www.tigerdirect.com among many others.

If you understand about computer parts, you can build your own system, but if you don't know much, then you better to get a custom build computer system from the retail computer store.

Don't by an OEM system(Gateway, Compaq, Dell, etc). Buy a generic system.

I don't know where you're other post went...it may have gotten deleted because you posted twice about the same thing.

Your PC came with a 700 Celeron...that's what the 700C means in the model name. You're listing your CPU as 933MHz, so it's obviously been upgraded already. The 2.0 GHZ upgrade that you're proposing simply isn't gonna happen & I think it's interesting that you left off the most important info about your system...it's a Flex ATX...aka fATX. It's not worth upgrading....
