If you are saying that you get no BIOS beep whether there is any ram in the slot or not then how have you determined that your problem relates to the ram?

You may simply have a failing powersupply or even a fried CPU

Sounds like the power supply, but you need to evaluate/test this.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

If you're getting no beeps with the RAM removed, you either have a bad board, bad CPU, or bad power supply. There's no way we can tell which one it is, you're going to have to troubleshoot.

BTW, 256MB isn't enough RAM to run WinXP decently. You should have at least twice that much, more would be even better.

Are you sure that the memory is compatible with the board?
Have you tried minimum attached components (just MB, PS, RAM, CPU/heat sink, onboard video, monitor, keyboard - no hard drive, etc) and see if you post to BIOS set up?
Have you tried any components in another system (like power supply or memory)?

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
