GGRRRR. why does everything hate me. i donno if anyone has any advice cos i seem to have got to nowhere but spent lots of money. my computer was running perfectly until for some odd reason my microcode in my bios got changed. but alas i was able to upgrade my bios using giga-bytes flash program. this then worked for about 30 mins then my computer reset and no display appeared.... i contacted gigabyte and they told me that i should reset my cmos. then that didn't work so the they todl me a diffrent way to do it. then i got told 2 other diffrent ways from other people. no luck. then giga-byte came up the a solotion....buy another mother board....why didnt they f---ing tell me that in the first place. any way i brought a basic but good Abit mother bourd (VT7) and put everything on it and switched it on and i have the same probblem (everything powers on but i have no display and no beeps etc...the HD light is constantly on). i tried my grapics card (AGP SPARKLE GEFORCE FX5200) in my old pc and it outputs fine so i think it isn;t that. i would assume that my bios would load even if my cpu or ram don;t work cos it would tell me. I really need help cos i don;t wanna by a new graphics card or processor unessesarily like i did with my mother board. cheers ... Jago

What was happening with your computer before all this started?

I think you are saying that your BIOS got corrupted so you flashed your BIOS. Then, after many changes, you traded your MOBO. WIth WINXP, you can't just swap MOBOs and expect things to run.

And my guess is you replaced the motherboard needlessly.

Tell me you reinstalled WIndows. If not no wonder you are having problems still!

You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users

....Well windows was failing so i needed to flash my bios...which i did successfully. then it ran perfectly for about 30 mins. then it reset and i had no signal going to my moniter. i havn't reinstalled windows or anythign because my bios won;t even load now. i have no signal going to my screen. Giga-Byte finalyl came to the conclusion that i most likly corrupted my bios so i need a new mother bourd. so i brought one and i'm still getting the same problem. I have no signal going to my moniter (and my moniter works fine) and my hdd light is constantly on and my bios doesn;t beep or anything....it keeps confusing me

Your motherboard is grounding out or your cpu is not seated properly. Is your cpu fan working?Does your heatsink feel reasonably warm to the touch?Your other motherboard is probably still good. You have a overheating problem or a PSU problem. If your cpu is overheating to bad, you won't get a bios boot screen. You only flash a Bios as a last resort.I have downloaded the proper bios flash many times.I have lost 2 motherboards over the years doing it.

oh ok. wel my cpu fan works fine and my heatsink doesn;t really get hot which i assume is a godo hting. i checked my cpu adn its seated fine and secure. i was told by one of my college lecturers today that its most liklely my power supply....i've had a habi tof getting lots of fans and mods etc in my case but i assumed a 400w supply would be fine. do u suggest to buy a new power supply or shall i try to test my cpu or graphics card in someone elses bourd?

Your heatsink is supposed to be at least warm to the touch, that's the heatsink collecting the heat from the cpu, then the fan dissapates it.If your heatsink paste is not applied properly your heatsink could feel cool to the touch.Usually 400 watt power supply is enough.
