Hi, about a month ago I stored all my cds in a plastic container. Each cd was in its own case and then today when I opened the container I found that most of the burnt cd's were physically damaged. By that I mean that the data layer on the cd was coming off.

My legit cd's that weren't burnt were in perfect condition.

It wasn't just one brand that was effected it was all the brands like TDK, TDK Gold, Sony.

By the way the container was stored in the computer room and never was moved.

I just wanted any ideas on how my burnt cds got damaged. Aren't blank CD's reliable or did I do something wrong?

Are you saying you can physically see that it's peeling off? And it's not a cd label?

If so it sounds like they were subjected to some kind of environmental stress, although I can't imagine what. Burnt cds aren't as long lasting as originals but they shouldn't lose their integrity in such a short time.

Was there any direct sunlight at the spot where you stored those cd's? Sunlight and temperatures above 30°C can do a lot of damage to CD-R's.

I've had it happen, but on nothing important, and it was because I left it in a non-air-conditioned room right in front of a Windows with direct sunlight for about 5 hours, it all depends on the enviroment.
