Comment:
I just received a CD-RW drive and I want to install it withough removing anything else, but all 4 of my IDE connectors are in use. Is there a cable with 3 connectors, or some kind of expansion device I can get to add one more device?
You must purchase a IDE adapter to do so ,because mot motherboard limit its ide devises to be four only.

Just to build on response 1, it is a PCI IDE adapter card. It will support up to four additional ide drives (depending on your power supply). It is also sometimes called a "promise card" (promise technologies).
Here is an example of one: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.asp?EDC=342975

I believe there are possible problems with using these, though not used it myself. Comes down to what is connected to which IDE channel, like not putting CD devices on the same IDE cable. The dealer who supplies the card should be able to advise if you explain your system setup to them. Like was said, also pay attention to the power, if you overload it you will have crashes and lock ups. Good luck.

Summary: Theres a lot more to it than terminators. If you wanted to put more than two disks on a single controller, the whole IDE specification would have to be redesigned. To be pedantic, an IDE controller o...
