Your Dimension uses a BTX motherboard so you may as well forget about upgrading the board.

And according to this thread in the Dell forum, your current board doesn't support the Core 2 Duo:

"ok what are my options?"

1. keep it as-is
2. keep it & upgrade
3. sell it & buy or build something better
4. keep it as a 2ndary machine & buy or build something better.

It would help if you'd list your system specs. You didn't state how much RAM you have or which P4. Do you have an actual video card or are you using the onboard video? And what is the system primarily used for?

You couldn't just put, P4 3.0GHz/800MHz FSB, 4GB DDR2-533, Radeon X300SE 128MB?

A CPU upgrade probably isn't worthwhile & you're already maxed out on the RAM. You didn't state what the system is primarily used for so I have no advice about the video card. The X300SE's not a gaming card but if you're not a gamer, it should be adequate.

is there anyway to get more out of my ram??
I have put my page file on my D drive, and I defrag automatic and I have disabled some startup programs, checked for spyware and viruses I feel I am not getting the most out of my system.
