Hi! Maybe it's a stupid question, but I've been breaking my head over it. Is there a way to connect more than 4 IDE deviced on the motherboard. Maybe with some kind of splitting cable or something? I have a Asus P4B533 motherboard with only 2 IDE connectors.

Hi,
To place more than 4 drives in that box you would need to install a PCI controller card. Shouldn't be a problem considering you have 6 PCI slots.

There are special pci ide (ATA) controller cards on the market who add two additional ide controllers. There should also be card with SATA (serial ATA) if you want the new standard. Just make sure you get a ATA133 controller card if you need ATA to have the newest and fastest standard available!
Most are also called raid controller because they allow you to join 2 to 4 similiar harddrives into 1 virtual drive that acts like one drive. That way the data can be written to all drives at the same time so you have a backup on every drive or you can split the data on all drives which allows you greater speed because they write all at the same time. The problem with the last variant is if one drive fails all data is lost! Some raid standards also combine these two variants!

Unless you have a special need, I would suggest not getting a Raid controller.
