My little brother's 1994 Panasonic monitor won't turn on.

When you press the front power switch the LED doesn't light up, green or orange. There's no sound like the monitor is even trying to start-up. So my thinking is somethings burned out, and that the tube is probably fine?

He says he didn't do anything to it, despite my endless attempts to explain to him, I'd rather not try to get it fixed if he indeed did something to it, instead I'd buy a new one. The new one thing didn't entice him, so I sorta believe him.

I opened up the monitor, since there's no such thing as the word "warranty" on a nearly 10 year old monitor. The fuse right where the power goes in is not burned out... I was upset to find that be the case.

Sigh, I'd hate to junk a perfectly functional 1024x768 monitor. Besides I can't actually afford him a new monitor, it's just a tactic, heh. Any ideas?

Be careful when mucking around in there, the stored high voltage can kill you.

Thank you. In fact, do you know of any websites that can inform me on that?

I monitor had been unplugged for an hour. I hit the power switch about 10 times. I know that can't fix everything, so I wouldn't mind some guidance here.

Thanks

The capacitors in there can stay charged for a long time. Maybe months or more, There is a way to discharge them, but I recommend you not mess with it.

Buy a new monitor. It takes an expert technician to fix one and will probably cost more than buying a new one.

wes is right ,just buy a new one. If it won't turn on, it won't turn on. Doesn't matter if your brother poured a can of coke in it or the fly motor burned out. Either way, you can get a new better one cheaper than fixing the old one.

AND you can get killed touching around inside. DON'T DO IT.
