I don't know how this happened, but it's an interesting problem. Out of the blue, my monitor decides it doesn't want to show the Windows Desktop anymore. It will show the BIOS boot-up screen, and the XP boot-up screen, but for some reason... it won't show the desktop. Instead, I get the "No Input" alert on the monitor, and then the green light changes to amber. I did try the monitor on another computer, and everything went smoothly. It had no trouble displaying the desktop.
I'm thinking it's something to do with either my video card, or some video driver settings in Windows. I hope it's not my video card.
The monitor I have is an ACER AL1716 LCD Monitor.

If the monitor works on another PC then it's probably good. Did you try another monitor on yours? Try that next.

Have you changed any of the video settings or updated drivers lately?
Try booting into safe mode. If you get a picture then check the display properties and see what resolution and frequency it is set for. Sometimes, when you are outside of the monitors limits it will say "no signal."
1280x1024 and 75hz should work for your monitor according to Acer.

Well, things are different now. For a split second, I can see a BSOD. I have no idea what it is, though.
I'll try booting into Safe Mode.

OK, check event viewer and see if it helps narrow down the problem.
Did you check the display settings and adapter?

Well, I've got a STOP error now.
STOP 0x0000007E (0x00000005, 0xF207F750, 0xF7C46430, 0xF7C4612C)
Familiar to anyone?

I googled the stop error you listed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330182/
lists as one cause: Incompatible video adapter drivers
You could alwyas try rolling back your display adapter driver.

Well, being the genius I am, I went for a repair installation with the XP CD. Everything worked great up until the reboot. The stop error persists still, but now I can't get into Safe Mode because the Setup insists on restarting into Normal Mode... am I stuck now?

I'm not sure on that.
Probably your best bet now is to see if you can get any files you need off of it, format the drive and then do a clean install.
