I am trying to help my sister with a dilemma. She was having a video issue and she tried multiple things and it never worked(drivers, updates, etc) This is an older system and she went out and bought a video card for it.She didnt know what to get so she got a pci card even though original was an older agp. she put it in correctly and now the monitor wont come out of standby. we tried unplugging and disconnecting everything and even tried to put old agp in and it still wont come out of standby on the monitor.TOTAL black screen she cant get into bios or anything. Please help as i have tried to help but we are in different states. Thank you in advance. Tony

Put the agp card back in and go into the CMOS/BIOS setup. Under peripherels you should find an option similar to "Init display first (AGP/PCI)". Set this option to PCI. Exit and save changes and then shut down the power. Put the new card in and reboot. The bottom line is that it sound like the monitor is not in stand by but rather is not getting initialized to begin with. Also, some cards require that you install the device drivers before physically installing the card itself but that does not sound like the issue here.

When the system is turned on do any of the lights light up:: ie. hdd cd rom power?

If so then its your card(s) if not then maybe the newer card has fried something on the motherboard.

Are you sure your replacing the old agp in its proper slot?? most old pc usally have one agp slot, some have none at all.

An agp card cannot fit into a PCI (or ISA) slot. The cut groove and the dimensions of the tracer ridges are not enough alike. This was done intentionally to prevent such a problem from happening.
