Monitor shows check signal cable after connec

Specs: Windows XP PRO, 1 GB DDR2 800 MHz, PENTIUM 4 3.0 GHz DUAL CORE TECHNOLOGY
I bought a new graphic card and fixed it to the mother board and connected the monitor cable to the card but the monitor shows check signal cable but everything works else fyn the cpu,fan,RAM etc.,except i dont know how to solve this problem and make the monitor show the video through the graphic card and i even dont know what changes should be made in the bios settings i changed the video configuration settings from dvmt to fixed and then primary video adapter to pcie still of no use

Possibly a dumb question but do you have the monitor cable connected to the new card?

In the BIOS there should be a setting for primary video, this want to be set to PCIE or Adapter Card depends on the BIOS. IF there is still a problem then you monitor may not support the output of the Graphics card.
