Specs: Windows XP

Hi, my PC has been perfectly fine for about 2 years but after I left it unused for 6 months, it started showing problems.. a couple months ago, the monitor won't turn on. and now there are horizontal waves on the monitor if I play games for awhile. it started as weak waves and keep getting stronger until the screen becomes black completely (the game is still continuing as if nothing happened) and I can still close the game with the task manager. after the game is ended the screen becomes normal again.

the waves only shows when I'm playing games. it doesn't show when I'm browsing or using microsoft office...

what's wrong with it? I tried to reinstall my windows, updating the directX, updating the graphics driver, nothing works... Help please!

When you let electronic devices sit for extended periods the contacts can start to corrode. This is more likely to happen in a high humidity environment. During normal use the electron flow through the contacts tends to diminish the corrosion.

Maybe it's time to splurge on a new LCD monitor.

Try another monitor to see if the same thing happens. I suspect there is something going on with your graphics card/chip. Possibly overheating.
