My monitor the screen when viewing the Vertical outside of the screen is wavy and I cannot get it to go straight with the geometry settings. I'm using WINxp SP2. This has just started. Thanks

do you mean that the edges are not straight or are moving like a wave?

there should be a button on the monitor that labled something along the lines of "reset", but this may not make the problem any better. Have you changed the refresh rate in the graphics setting reciently? if so this may be the cause. whatever the reason usually the best method is to use the reset button and the ajust it from there. if its still not satsifactory post back

has the edge changed at all either for the best or worst? Does changing the settings on the monitor make any difference to the shape of the image at all? If nothing you do makes the image either better or worst then your monitor may be stuck like that. If the controls do make a diference then try to get it as best as you can. one setting that will make the most difference is "pincution" it should be indicated by an icon with sided that are rounded. If you ajust this control but the middle of the screen stayes the same then there may be a similar control, that allows you to set the pincution of the middle of the screen. this should get you a good enough image

Err... mR_Slug means "pincushion" I think.

When you've tried all the monitor's own settings and refresh rate then try your monitor on someone else's machine (or theirs on yours). This will prove whether the monitor itself is faulty - most likely.

degauss work?

You didn't say if it was LCD or CRT. If it's CRT then degauss might help but the more usual symptom is patches of color (the electron beam just get's pulled over "very slightly" and illuminates adjacent pixels).

Sorry, my spelling is poor :( If you have a medium/high end video card there may be other adjustments in the display properties (under the settings tab>advanced) to change the screen shape. It may be worthwhile setting these to their defaults, if they aren't already.

If a monitor's picture just changes without any user intervention then, like Derek said it probably on its way out.

It's either the monitor or the video card. Probably the monitor.

Its a CRT and I have tried degauss, no luck.

Pincushion doesnt work its a double wave like a S, not just a bowing effect. Well its only on the outside and not in the center area.

Another thing I've noticed that now battlefiled 1942 will not show correctly it fonts are all broken up, this seemed to happen after I installed the newest patch, Just got the game so its new to me.

Anyways thanks for the help so far.

Hi, Go with Derek and test that guy on someone else's PC and/or his on yours. That sounds like an old Monitor/TV problem with bad filter caps. Jim

Oddly enough today its back to normal, came to the computer and my Daughter had Sims 2 Running and I shut that down and the screen look good.

Hmmm, maybe a clash between sims 2 and Battlefield 1942...Don't know but I'm happier now.

Oh well, that can be the way with computers. If it comes back as first try check out the monitor as in #6.

Thx for popping back so that we know the outcome.
