Monitor screen is pinkish

I have a 5 year old 21" Hitachi SuperScan 813 CRT monitor. The display used to occasionally go pinkish dull with the images appear smeared. Then it would correct itself. The last couple of days, it has stayed that way most of the time. For few seconds it flickers to normal brighness and then becomes dull again.
Is there anything to adjust? Or has it to be repaired? Or the monitor has reached the end of its useful life?
The video card is AIW Radeon 8500 and has the latest drivers installed.

It's a hardware problem with either the video card or more likely the monitor. Both are normally cheaper to replace than repair.

Most likely when a color becomes dominant, a contrasting color will ultimately fail. Too much red means blue or green is failing. Time for a new monitor.

That symptom occurs when one of the three color signals is lost. Can be the card. Can be the electronics in the display. But most often it is caused by a bad cable connection or a broken wire in the cable. Make sure the monitor cable has not worked loose.
