No, the radiation is not dangerous. First of all, very little is given off. Second, it is alpha rays, they least harmful rays, its the kind from a microwave. The WORST Alpha rays can do (after constant exposure for 2 weeks) is a rash. It doesnt hurt the environment either.

Well, comparitively speaking, a monitor is nothing more than a low grade television (this depends on the style of monitor you are using of course). Thier use to be about 12 times the radiation than what you find in todays monitors and it was primarily due to the phosphorus found in the tube. Todays devices can use far less (or even different materials altogether; again, depending on the make and year of the monitor) than they have in the past allowing the designers to build a device that also saves on power costs because it does not need the same load that they once did. Still, there is radiation and the primary concern has always been whether or not it is a primary contributer to cancer in the future. This subject, as I am sure you are aware, has been highly argumentative and certainly contreversial for many years now so it still leaves the buyer to 'be ware', as they say. Unfortunately, that is all that can really be said though. Just simple speculation. At least, if there has been more in depth studies on the subject, I haven't heard of them.

Monitors are safe to use and pose no radiation problem to the user. But the comment made about being safe for the enviornment is incorrect. Monitors and tv's are considered hazardous material when it comes to dumping. Most dumps will not knowingly take them. That's probably why most stuff like that is shipped to china and dumped there. They don't have the same laws we have when it comes to hazardous dumping.

Just one more question. Will the monitor affect your eyes in anyway?
