Huh? Desktop is displayed on the monitor as is everything. There should be a brightness control either using buttons along the bottom of the screen or through software.

What is the model of your monitor? Should be written somewhere on the edge of the screen.

Is everything that shows on the monitor brighter or just windows desktop? Is it a CRT monitor?

It's probably the monitor and not the video card but it'd be a good idea to try it on another computer, if possible, and see if it acts the same way.

You may want to check its manual and see if there are any settings you're unaware of. Also check to see if it's still under warranty.

Bah, humbug
