I'm definitely not nearly as computer savvy as most of you, so hopefully you can all bear with me and help me out with this problem. My computer was jostled around a little bit recently due to a flood in the basement where it was kept. Now that I've plugged it back in, I can't seem to get the monitor to work.
The monitor is hooked up properly, and it is powered on (as is the computer). When I took the side off the modem and looked inside, there is a little pack of cords of all different colors that have little black things on the end (each of these black things specifies it's function), that looks like it should be plugged into a little white square thing that has four holes in the end.
What I want to know is...Is this affecting my monitor? I've tried plugging in three different monitors and none of them have worked. Please help!
And I apologize for my lack of knowledge of computer parts.

There is absolutely nothing in a modem that will effect a monitor. They are so far removed from each other that they couldn't possibly have any effect.
What you need to do is take the cover off the case with the power cable removed. Press everything that is socked back into place, especially the memory modules. The ribbon cables going to the hard disk need to be checked and reseated and the main power lead to the motherboard.
If you are unfamilira with the innards of a computer I would get someone else to look at it. If it is just something that has worked lose then it should only take a couple of minutes.

I don't know what a modem has to do with anything...could it be that you're using the wrong term?
"there is a little pack of cords of all different colors that have little black things on the end (each of these black things specifies it's function)"
What functions are listed on the "black things"?
"I've tried plugging in three different monitors and none of them have worked"
I'd say you've probably ruled out the monitor as the problem. Can we assume that when you switch on the PC that the case LEDs come on & you can hear the cooling fans spinup? Did any of the PC components get wet from the flooding?

I think what is happening here is the OP is calling the computer tower a "modem".
And it sounds like he is describing the case leads that plug onto the motherboard.
