Hello all,
I was going to help someone put in a wireless network, but I arrived at the house, and found out that her HP laptop screen wouldn't come on! She said it has been jumpy, meaning that sometimes it won't come on, but other times it will. I tried everything I knew of to try and get the screen to appear. Everything seems to boot up fine, you can even hear windows xp theme music. Is there any keyboard command that turns a monitor on or off, or is this monitor on the death bead?

It's either the monitor or the video adapter. You will have to swap them to determine which. Try wiggling the cable where it connects to the adapter.

If the video adapter is a card, you could try reseating it.
