If a different monitor works without showing any sign of a problem then you can be fairly sure your problem is in your monitor and not in the graphics card or drivers. What kind of monitor is it? CRT or LCD? There are no user-servicible internal components. Only you can determine whether it will be more economic to pay for repair or replacement.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

If it is an LCD monitor with separate power adaptor then sometimes the adaptor fails and is all that needs replacing.
