I am running an ATI All-in-Wonder X800 video card and I'm using a dual monitor display. My problem is that both my monitors keep going into power save mode and I can't get them out without restarting the system. I have found many people who are having similar problems, but my problem happens even while I'm typing or using the mouse or watching a movie. First I thought there was a power management problem so I turned that to "Always On" then I thought the problem might be with the video card so I installed the lastest drivers, but the problem persists.

Some days I can go all day and all is well, some days I'm luck to get an hour without the monitors going off. Somedays I can be working and it goes off, somedays I can leaving it for hours and come back and all is well.

If anyone can give me any help in this matter, I would be most grateful.

Thanks,
Eric

My first question is how are you determining the monitors are going into power saving mode?

That is unusual. I can suggest lots of things to check but haven't really got a handle on why this is happening for sure.

First thing would be to check in the BIOS screens to see how power management is set there.

I suggest ACPI be set to S1 with minimal or user defined power savings.

Install speedfan to monitor your system temperatures. get it here:

What is the brand, model and capacity of your PSU (power supply)?

If the graphics card has an additional power connector on it, be sure to have it connected.

You'll have power saving options in cmos/bios setup, in window's control panel and maybe the added video software. They could be conflicting and the problem may go away if you disable all but one monitor timer.

Try disabling any monitor timers in cmos and use the power options in control panel instead. Then if there are timers in your ATI software decide if you want to use them or the control panel power options.

The screens go blank and then big white letters saying "Power Save Mode." come across the screen.

I will check the BIOS settings and let you know if that works. I have narrowed the problem down as it only happens when one application is running.
