Comment:

It only happens when i play some computer games tat give very high graphic detail such as Black and White, Pirates of the caribbean and warcraft frozen throne.But it wouldnt happen when i play Need for speed underground 2(and the latter also give high graphic quality)
My monitor will display (out of range) or sometimes display (no signal) and eventually shut down by itself while my cpu is still running.

I was using a graphic card ATI Radeon 9600XT Hardcore 128MB ram and this problem started since i bought it 2 months ago.Before tat i was using ATI Radeon 9200SE 64MB ram and playing the same game and it didnt shut down. I have already downloaded the latest catalyst driver from the net.

I already configured/overided my monitor to 60Hz reffresh rate although it can support up to 85Hz.And i was using 800x600 resolution in desktop and 1024x768 resolution in the game. The monitor will shut down after i was playing the game more than 1 or 2 hour.

I can sometime even used it(monitor) up to 12 hour if i wasnt playing game and it function well.

I asked other forum b4 and some tell me tat my monitor need to be thrown away.But i wonder why i wuold do tat cos it still functioning ( if not i right now wouldnt be typing here)

can somebody please help?

For extra information; my computer specs are as follows;

CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 2100 MHz (12.5 x 168) 2600+

You probably should have mentioned your monitor make and model.

If you set the make and model of the monitor in Advanced settings I don't think ATI software will allow the card to output any signal the monitor can't handle.

If you have the drivers for the card installed you should have a number of tabs under advanced settings. My ATI has 11 tabs, one of which is monitors. GO Start> settings> control panel> display> settings> advanced> monitor. The specs you give are the maximumsfor each spec. The actual settings work this way. The higher the resolution the lower the color depth and refresh rate. You need to read the manual for the monitor to find the maximum refresh rate for each resolution and color depth. If your monitor make and model is listed under the monitor tab the graphics card will know those settings and shouldn't allow out of range settings. If your monitor isn't listed you MAY be able to make a custom sheet to accomplish the same thing. By the way, the graphics card specs work pretty much the same way. It would be a parity these days to find both capable of the same exact maximums. Of course the lower spec is the one that should prevail. Running a monitor out of specs CAN damage it. If by chance you have an LCD display instead of a CRT then how you apply the settings is different.
