OS: Windows 98
CPU/Ram: celeron 256mb
Comment:

I re-installed Windows 98 on an older pc. Everything went perfect, except windows was not recognizing my modem. I pulled modem card and re-installed card in case it wasn't correctly seated. After doing this, now the pc powers up, but the monitor will not turn on?? Yes, it's plugged in and cable securely fastened to back of pc. I tried taking out modem card and same issue. Need help thanks!

Most likely you bumped the graphics card loose. Try re-seating it.

Does it give the normal beep(s) when you power it up?

I don't hear beeps when plugging back in. The power supply fan is the only thing I hear. Does this mean the mother board is toast?

Not necessarily. It doesn't sound like you've done anything that would cause that. Check all the connections, maybe remove all the cards.

Sometimes that happens to me and I'll just fiddle with the cards and then it starts working again. (Then again, sometimes it doesn't.)

Also check that the CPU and RAM are firmly seated.
