Someone gave me an LCD Flatscreen monitor. The monitor is a Proview 19" (Model number PL926Wbi)

Anyways, this monitor's case is melted in the top left corner. See the pictures:

I've had this monitor on for several hours now. It doesn't feel hot (though the vents on top are slightly warm, but nothing like what a CRT monitor can put out). The monitor also doesn't have any discolorations at all.

I haven't made the monitor work much, just surfing the web, and watching some youtube vids on fullscreen.

Do you think my monitor is fine? Or should i take it some where to have it checked out?

That looks like damage from a light bulb. Possibly a desk lamp.

So should the monitor be okay to use? Will the melting on the case cause any damage? I can't see any damages on the inside from what i can tell.

To the best of my knowledge no one here is qualified to answer the above questions. If you really want to make sure it will not evolve into a fire hazard, have a certified technician examine it.

Hey, you got it free and it works. Don't worry about it unless it stops working.

That most def came from an outside source, plastic doesn't typically start to melt unless the temp is around boiling point which is 100c or 212f. I suspect as well that it came from a high power lighting soruce around it like a 75w light bulb or stronger which can generate that type of heat.

If that was your lcd monitor causing it, then it would have been fried before you even got it.

well, i think the monitor is dying now. it will only stay on a few minutes at a time before having the screen just go black.
