monitor LED flashes but no display

i just got a 17" monitor and when i put power to it the screen wont turn on only the power LED flashes... is there anything i could do to solve this? cheers...

Is the monitor new or used? If it is flashing red it is incompatible. If it is flashing green then you need to adjust your screen settings from within windows.

Err, you have plugged the data cable into it from your graphics card yes? If the monitor recieves no signal then the light will flash yellow.

Seems you were using a resolution/refresh rate that worked fine for the old monitor but the new one is not compatible with them.
So, hook the old monitor back up, set the resolution to 800x600 or something small like that. Set the refresh rate to 60 Hz. Hook the new monitor back up and then you can change those settings back to whatever you like, and if you push it to far you can just hit the escape key to go back to the previous settings.
