monitor keeps making a buzzing sound, even when on mute

Specs: Windows Vista
I have noticed that my monitor will make an odd (& rather annoying) buzzing/crackling sound. it's not constant, but it happens a lot. at first, I thought it was because my cell phone was too close, or because my son's Xbox was running nearby....but it does it when the Xbox isn't in the room and when my cell phone is nowhere near it. even when I have the volume on "mute", it it loud. any ideas on what it could be or what I need to do to get rid of that sound (other than buying a new monitor)??

Hi Tigress, always advise Device Type, Make and full model number for queries such as this.
e.g. am interested which monitor has a volume control

Have you tried connecting the monitor to another pc, and if so, does the noise still occur?

Here in the UK, there are numerous electronic (not computers only) repair shops where one can take such devices. They check and give a quote for repair, which the owner can accept or reject.

However if your monitor is old and the bulky type, it is probably not worth repairing and should simply be replaced. Often working ones can be found being given away for free.

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

It could be all manner of things but not something you are likely to be able to fix unless you have the necessary knowledge and experience. It's time to replace or repair the monitor.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
