Dont know whether this is a Vista problem or hardware so posted it on both sections! Hi there, My monitor keeps going dark it doesn't turn off as i can see what's on it it's just like the light is going off. I've only had 2 weeks use out of it before it started happening. At first it was just happening every now and then but now it's off more than on when i'm using it and I have to give the monitor a knock on the side to bring it back on. It's getting worse now and I have to hit it harder and harder the worse it gets! Any help would be appreciated, cheers

i read about this today for a friend its a common thing with laptops 6 out of 10 laptop do the same thing but if u had to knock the monitor to get it sorted it might be a lose wire in your monitor my girlfriends laptop does the same thing when its on charge its really bright but when it not on charge its dull im not to good with laptops so i would say take it back to the shop if its still under warrenty or if u wanted to try and fix it your self have a look at some utube videos maybe its an easy job have a look at this 1 and see if its the same as whats happing to yours http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNZb... there are loads of videos on there how to fix a laptop hope u get it sorted!!!!!

Thanks for the reply I forgot to mention it only happens when I move the laptop around. I found a video on youtube after your reply and it could be a loose wire that connects the monitor to the motherboard like you say. It doesn't just go dull it goes completey dark but I can still see the outlines when there's something white on the screen so the monitor doesn't go off! I got it from ebay but I still have a few months left on the warranty with HP. Thanks again
