Monitor isn't turning on

December 9, 2011 at 05:37:14
Specs: Windows 7
This morning when I booted up my desktop, my monitor (HP vs17) wouldn't turn on. I checked to make sure all the cables were secure and I checked with another cable to make sure that it wasn't the cable. The monitor wouldn't turn on, and the power button wasn't lighting up.

I decided to unplug both the power and computer cables and let it sit for about 5 minutes, then plugged it into a different wall power outlet. I could hear sounds like it was trying to start, and the power button light up for just a moment, then went off. It did this two more times.

I know the answer is probably gonna be that I have to replace it, but here's to hoping to a simpler solution.

Simple way to test the monitor. Disconnect the VGA cable from the pc and try to turn on the monitor. If you get an on-screen display saying no signal or similar there is nothing wrong with the monitor. Your more likely problem is a failed powersupply in the PC. You have not given any details of the system. Do you have access to another powersupply to test with?

The computer itself works, I have it plugged into my TV right now.
