monitor in standby

i am having this problem on 2 mobos: when booting up the monitor stays in standby and will not come out. the mobos are abit kg7raid nd msi k7npro. i tried 3 video cards and same problem. what gives? am i missing a jumper setting or something?. the monitor works fine on my other computer (pos HP). am i just an idiot? please help!! also the keyboard doesnt seem to be functioning. capslock/numlock lights blink then go off. I cant get them to come on.??
