Monitor Has A Short

Acer Aspire 5920 as5920-6470 notebook
April 24, 2010 at 14:17:10
Specs: Windows Vista
At times the monitor goes black. To correct
this I must either move monitor as if closing to
get monitor to flicker back on and leave in this
position or completely shut down a couple of
times until it flickers back on. Definitely
appears there is a short, but unsure how to fix.
Laptop is out of warranty & Acer Tech said
$500 to fix. Please help...Thx!

Probably a bad connection instead of a short circuit. A small flat ribbon cable connects the display to the mainboard and typically it's a bad connection at the board or possibly a break in one of the "wires"; that cable flexes each time the laptop is opened or closed.

I found a service manual for your machine...

Insure this is the proper service manual for your laptop and if you decide to open it up, follow all directions to the letter. Pay close attention to proper tools, screw sizes, and disassembly/reasassembly procedures.

Might also be the inverter connection that has slackened off (have seen this in quite a few)
Again an easy fix if done in the correct way
