Monitor gone 'grey'?

My computer was fine this afternoon, and late tonight I moved the mouse to use the computer (it was on standby mode, without a screensaver), and the whole screen took on this gray-ish tone. It goes in and out of being dark-ish gray to white, and all the colors are kind of muted. I have NEVER had any kinds of problems with this moniter, it is a Gateway EV700 and it has shown no sign of going out, hell I've had it less than a year (the moniter, not the system). What happened? I haven't changed anything and it just did this...I'm worried so I made a backup disk, but I doubt it would come to that. I have a Creative GeForce Detonator 32MB card in there, it's old-ish but it's never caused me any problems. Help? (Also, I'm using Win98se but this doesn't really have much to do with that)

Did you restart the computer? If so, what happened? Is it still the same?

Double-check the cable connections on the back of your PC in case the mouse cable snagged on it.
Sounds silly I know, but I once spent an hour trying to figure out what was wrong with a brand new monitor which was displaying a kind of blueish grey tint, only to find the cable was not connected properly!

I've had a Gateway EV700 before and one day it just stopped working. If you check all the connections and find that it's the same way it was when it was working then just call Gateway and they should replace it for free(since it's only a year old). They did for me and mine was 2 years old.

^But to be sure, see if you can find another monitor(maybe borrow one if you have to) just to prove that it is for sure the monitor before you call them because they'll probably hassle you thinking you're an idiot.

Actually I fixed it...the graphics card burned out. :( I'm using my old 8MB Nvidia Vanta until I can get a new one.
Summary: Got a Miracle 10" VGA color monitor that has gone completely white. No video at all. Screen stays dark with no input, turns white with a few faint diagonal lines when PC is on. No intermittents/cold s...
Summary: now it sounds like the monitor goning out. or your resolution is to high for that vedio card http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/1825.html ...
