Monitor flashing green light

December 25, 2009 at 04:47:51
Specs: Windows XP

My pc monitor is just black with the green light flashing. Before this the background of the monitor was flickering. I have checked all cables and shut power and rebooted but nothing happens. PC reboots, but the monitor is black.

I just started the PC again and the moniter is still black and green light flickering. The 3 green lights on my keyboard did light up, then only the one with the #1 stayed illuminated and now all 3 are out. When I depress caplock that light does work.
If I try the monitor on my laptop, should my laptop be shut down, first, or do I need to do anything to my laptop? Sorry, I know these ay be silly questions!
Many thanks

A bad stick of RAM could cause monitor problems, but you should see "No Input" or some other such message on your monitor. Try unplugging one stick of RAM at a time and see if your monitor comes back on. If so, you will know that the unplugged stick is bad.

Thank you. I did as you suggested. The monitor was connected to the laptop - the green light was on, steady (not flickering) but the screen flashed on (same screen as the laptop) for about a split second only, then went black. When I turned the monitor's green light off and then on again, the monitor lit up for that split second only, then went back to black. I have now disconnected the laptop and the monitor is back to flickering!
