Monitor doesn't display anything

Microsoft Windows vista home premium w/s...
September 21, 2009 at 07:53:07
Specs: Windows Vista Home
Here's the problem:
Overnight, my monitor stopped working--sort of.

The monitor seems to be working fine(seems)
But whenever i turn on my computer, the monitor doesn't get the signal-- the pc seems to be working fine, "everything sounds right", the keyboard light are on and "things" looks as if they're working properly. But again, the monitor is not picking up the display signal.

If it matters at all, the last things i did when the everything was in place--

Defragged the C drive
Freed up disk space
Installed Service pack 2, but instead of restarting i simply powered off.

Appreciate the help,
Thanks in advance

Do you get the normal single beep when powering on? If not, then your PC is not "working fine", it is dead as a doornail.

Do you have an alternate monitor that you can swap to rule out a faulty monitor?

It may sound simple... but try unplugging all monitor cords and replugging them then use the black on off switch on back of pc. It won't do anything when switch it off but when you switch it back on it should reset the signal.
