|I think I have quite a strange problem.|
I recently bought a new desktop along with a new monitor. The display works fine with the desktop.
I bring my work laptop home everyday and I thought it would be great if I can connect it to the big monitor. So I bought a HDMI KVI switch to hook up both the desktop & the laptop when I need to.
When I first started up the laptop to display on the monitor, all the desktop icons are messed up. As I try to arrange them into the positions that I am familiar with, the monitor screen blacks out for a few seconds, and then comes back on again. I thought this was OK as maybe my laptop needed time to get used to the new display (LOL) as it had happened when I hooked it up to a monitor at work too.
After I did some work-related stuff in MS Outlook, I had to access a folder on my desktop. As I minimized the MS Outlook window, the windows desktop showed for a brief moment and then the monitor blacked out. It did not come on again and the LED switch on my monitor went orange (off) to green (on) to orange to green... with the words "monitor going to sleep" before the light turned orange. I pressed alt+tab to switch back to MS Outlook and the display came alive again. It died again when I went to the windows desktop.
Afterward there was this email that contained a few images. As I scrolled down using my mouse the monitor blacked out suddenly. I continued scrolling, and it displayed again. I tried scrolling up to the same spot and it blacks out again. This happens when I opened an excel document too - some tabs caused the monitor to black out.
I find this very strange as it only happens with certain areas I access!
The desktop computer & the same monitor display still functions without any problem.
Internal Resolution: 14" LED - 1366 x 768
This I stole from the HP manual online: DisplayPort supports resolutions up to 2560 x 1600, 30-bit color depth at 60 Hz, and full HD (1920 x 1080) monitors, 24-bit color depth at 120 Hz
I use the displayport to connect to a displayport-HDMI adaptor and then to the KVI switch

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)
