Can anybody tell me why my device manager keeps showing 3 monitors when I only have one? I've tried deleteing the two default and left the correct one but every time I restart it picks them up again...

I have an 850AMD Duron Spitfire (AthlonLite) with MMX and 3DNow, 128mb Nvidia geforce4 mx440 vid card with the 45.23 detonator driver, 3D acceleration through DX9.0a and 256mb ram.

Bon.

Have you tried deleting them all, and then restarting?

Then, maybe it will detect the only monitor. I am not sure about this really, just sort of guessing, but I would try that. You may also want to uninstall any software that is specifically related to your monitor, not that you would have this, but if you do...

Maybe after removing all the monitors you could uninstall the display adapter drivers for you GeForce, and then restart.

Just a few thoughts, hopefuly someone more knowledgeable will stop in and give you some good advice.

Good luck, Red.

I had that also a while ago. I think that windows doesn't detect the right monitor so it does it's own settings. After I got another monitor it was gone!
And it happened with a mouse also. The right driver was installed and working but windows installed the standard mousedriver everytime.

If the graphic settings use the correct monitor driver you can ignore it or instead of deinstalling right click the wrong drivers and click on "deactivate in this profile" (or something like because I don't know the exact english option!). After that they aren't active anymore but still there so windows will not bother you again!
Maybe not the perfect solution but a working one!

Free weasel is correct. Windows is simply recognising the same monitor as both a PnP default and whatever actual monitor it is. Don't worry about it. I think this happens with hardware that is manufactured by a company and rebranded for someone else. Have had this problem with modems, keyboards, monitors & mice. Just ignore it if everything is working fine.
